Texas Online Unemployment Application is Easy to Use

Texas has simplified the process of applying for weekly unemployment benefits. The Texas weekly unemployment application for benefits can be filed on-line or over the telephone. Online, the first step is to register to obtain a PIN number and establish a user ID. You will need to have your last employer’s name, first and last day’s worked for that employer, and the number of hours worked along with your pay rate. You’ll need your alien registration number if you are not a US citizen. Unemployment weekly benefits vary between $60.00 and $415.00 depending on the wages you earned. However, before you file a Texas unemployment weekly claim, you must meet three requirements.

The first requirement to receive benefits is you must have a payable claim. You had to have earned a set amount of money during a recent 12 month period. Texas uses four of the last five calendar quarters to calculate your weekly claim for unemployment. A payable claim means you earned a specific amount of wages during a recent 12-month period called the base period. Texas does not use wages earned in the quarter you are filing or the quarter before that. The state will calculate your weekly unemployment claim by dividing the high quarter’s earnings by 25 to figure your weekly benefit amount.

When you apply to claim weekly unemployment benefits, you must be unemployed or partially unemployed through no fault of your own. If you were laid off due to lack of work, fired without work related misconduct, or you quit due to a well-documented medical reason, you will have met the second requirement. Another acceptable reason for quitting is a need to care for a minor child or terminally ill spouse.

The third requirement is exhibiting an active desire to work. When you file and after you start receiving Texas unemployment weekly benefits, you must continually look for work. You also need to be physically able and available to work full time. It is required that you be registered to look for work online at WorkInTexas.com or with the nearest Workforce Solutions office. Maintaining a Work Search Log is mandatory if you want to continue receiving benefits.

With the user ID and PIN, you can enter the site and start entering the information in the appropriate boxes. The process is simple. Be sure to read each instruction carefully. Complete every screen completely from top to bottom. Pay close attention to asterisks as that denotes information that is required. The system will close if left inactive for 30 minutes and the information will not be saved. Be aware that when you complete the form, the application is not complete until you receive a confirmation number.
