Apply and Receive South Dakota Unemployment

If you have found yourself unemployed, you are not alone. With this economic downturn, many well qualified and reliable workers are without jobs. You should not feel ashamed or embarrassed to take advantage of the unemployment benefits that are available to you. It is important to submit a claim as soon as possible after becoming unemployed, or you may lose out on some benefits. It is best to file your claim by the close of the business day on the Friday of the week that you lost your job, when you will still be eligible to receive benefits for that week.

To apply for unemployment, you must meet certain criteria. First, your unemployment must be at no fault of your own, and you must be a legal worker in the United States. Additionally, you must have worked a certain amount of hours and made a certain amount of money during a specific period. Before you begin your South Dakota application for unemployment, make sure you have the required information before you begin the process.

The information that is required in order to apply for unemployment is your Social Security number, information about all of your employers during the past eighteen months, a copy of your DD214 if you were employed by the military during the past eighteen months, and your alien registration number if you are not a U.S. citizen.

Once your South Dakota application for unemployment is accepted, you will begin to receive unemployment benefits. To continue receiving unemployment benefits, you must submit weekly claims. These weekly claims let the unemployment office know that you are still eligible to receive unemployment benefits. Without these claims, your benefits will stop. You can file these weekly claims at 24 hours a day or you may file them by phone at 605-626-3212.
