Pennsylvania Unemployment Insurance Benefits

Out of work residents residing in the state of Pennsylvania may be eligible for compensation unemployment. Depending on your eligibility status, you may receive up to 53 weeks of Pennsylvania unemployment compensation (UC) as of the year 2011 from the PA Department of Labor and Industry.

Eligibility for UC benefits will depend on whether or not you lost or quit your job and the circumstances. The exact benefit amounts and the length of time to receive them will be based on your last salary and how long you were employed. In general, benefit amounts are equal to half of your gross salary.

To file an initial Pennsylvania unemployment claim, applications may be obtained at one of the eight UC Service Centers, via telephone, or at the website www.uc.pa.gov. Full instructions with step by step information and reference charts will be provided to those applying.

You will need key pieces of information when filing a claim for unemployment in Pennsylvania including your Social Security number, driver's license number if applicable, your mailing address, name and address of your previous employer, the dates of your employment and reason for leaving, and alien registration number if you are not a U.S. citizen.

Your most recent pay stub, although not necessary, will also be helpful when filing for a Pennsylvania unemployment claim.
