Filing for Ohio Weekly Unemployment Benefits

       To file for unemployment benefits in Ohio, log onto the website unemployment.ohio.gov or call 1-877-OHIOJOB (644-6562). You should file your claim as soon as you become unemployed. After initiating your claim, you will be issued a PIN #. Please write down and save this PIN #, as it will be used by you to access your claim. Once your initial claim is made in the system, you will need to file a weekly claim for unemployment benefits.

       Your Ohio weekly unemployment claim can be filed at the web address of unemployment.ohio.gov. You can claim weekly unemployment benefits for any week in which you are unemployed. To make your weekly unemployment claim from the website, choose Existing Account Login on the menu to the left of the screen. Enter your Name or Social Security # and your PIN # to log in. To file for your weekly unemployment benefit, choose the button next to the date of the week you wish to claim. You will then be given a series of questions to answer about your availability for work during the week. You will need to review and confirm your answers. Once completed, you will be given a confirmation code. Save this code for your records.

       To file for Ohio unemployment weekly benefits using your phone, dial 1-877-OHIOJOB (644-6562) and follow the automated menus. You will need to provide you PIN # as well to identify yourself. The telephone hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

       Remember when filing for your weekly claim for unemployment in Ohio, the work week begins on Sunday and ends on Saturday. Sunday following the week you were unemployed is the first day that you can file you weekly unemployment claim. You will have up to 21 days to file a claim for any week you did not work.

       For the first three weeks you are filing for Ohio benefits, you will need to file a weekly unemployment claim. After the 3rd week, you may opt to correspond through the mail. If you choose this option, you will only be required to only file a biweekly claim (every other week). Electronic claims shall continue to be filed weekly.
