Michigan Unemployment Contact Information

After a job loss, there are many factors that need to be considered. Financially, one of your first priorities should be contacting Michigan's office of unemployment.

Unemployment can be filed either online or by telephone. The phone number for Michigan unemployment applications is 1-866-500-0017. You can begin a new claim or update an existing claim by calling this free number to reach the unemployment agency. Although you must be a Michigan resident to receive Michigan unemployment, you may call this unemployment number from anywhere in the United States or Canada.

If you are a TTY caller looking to contact the Michigan unemployment department, call 1-866-366-0004.

The phone line for the Michigan office unemployment is open between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm Eastern Time. It is closed for lunch between noon and 12:30 pm. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday only specific calls for the phone number to unemployment are accepted (based on the last two digits of your Social Security number). On Thursday and Friday the Michigan agency for unemployment holds "open call-in" where anyone can call at any time to file or update a claim.

When you call the Michigan unemployment office, it is important to have some basic documents and information available. You will need to provide your Social Security number, your Driver's License (or State Identification) number, and your MARVIN PIN (if you already have one). It's also important to be able to provide your job history for the past year and a half. This includes employers' names and locations along with your gross earnings and dates of employment.

At times, the Michigan unemployment phone line can be extremely busy. Not all callers will be able to connect to the line, and may receive a busy signal instead. The Michigan Unemployment Office recommends individuals continue trying to call the line every ten to fifteen minutes until they are connected, or consider filling out their application online. The online access portion of the unemployment office has a much higher capacity for processing claims and also has longer access hours (Monday through Saturday, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm).
