Apply and Receive Kentucky Unemployment

Losing a job and being unemployed in this trying economy can be a difficult time, to say the least. But fortunately, you may qualify for unemployment benefits and receive monetary assistance until you are working again. In the state of Kentucky, receiving unemployment benefits begins with determining whether or not you are eligible.

To receive unemployment benefits in Kentucky you must be actively searching for employment and able to work and have earned enough money during your base period to qualify. Depending on how much you earned before becoming unemployed, benefits range from a minimum of $39 to a maximum of $415 per week.

To file an initial or weekly Kentucky unemployment application you may either use the Internet or file by phone. To apply for unemployment online, log onto Kentucky's Office of Employment and Training (OET) website at, read the information and click the "I Agree" button at the bottom of the screen. From there you will be prompted to enter your user name and personal identification number or register a new account.

Note that the Internet filing system is only available Mondays through Fridays from the hours of 7:00 am to 7:00 pm and on Sundays from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm.

You may also file an initial Kentucky unemployment application or reopen a claim over the phone by calling the local number 502-875-0442 Mondays through Fridays between 7:30 am and 5:30 pm.

To request and receive your Kentucky unemployment benefits biweekly via the telephone, call 877-3MY-KYUI or 877-369-5984 toll free. Keep in mind that in Kentucky, extended unemployment benefits cannot be requested over the telephone.

Some details you will need to apply for unemployment includes your Social Security number, contact information, and the contact information for your employers along with the dates of your employment.
