There are unemployed workers all across the state of Colorado who struggle to survive as they search for work. Fortunately, the state has unemployment assistance that temporarily helps many people who are unemployed through no fault of their own. Some workers do not take advantage of unemployment services online because they do not understand how the system works or what they must do to file for unemployment benefits. However, Colorado has made it easy for workers to access all necessary information and to apply for unemployment service online.

Unemployment Online Services

The online application is free of charge and user-friendly. To begin the application process, you should go to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment website at You will need the following documents and information to file an online unemployment application:

  • Social security number
  • Name, mailing address, and contact phone number of the claimant
  • Names, addresses, phone numbers, and rates of pay from all jobs you held in the past 18 months
  • Starting and ending dates for all jobs held in the past 18 months
  • Payment information and the number of days/weeks/hours you received for severance pay, only if applicable
  • Name, address, and phone number for union hiring hall, if applicable
  • Alien number, only for non-citizens

The application is easy to understand and can be completed in as little as 30 minutes. Most questions pertain to claimant contact information and work history. After the application has been completed and the claim has been reviewed, the claimant will receive notice via mail concerning the status of their claim.

Additional Unemployment Services Online

The state of Colorado requires mandatory work registration for most workers receiving unemployment. This service is in place to help workers find employment. The Department of Labor and Employment website allows claimants to register for work online.
