Arizona Unemployment Office

The Arizona Unemployment Insurance office (AZUI) does not staff dedicated locations. Instead, all applications and claims must be made over the telephone or online. The office of unemployment call center is available from 7:00 am to 7:30 pm at the numbers below.

Applying for Benefits

The toll-free phone number for unemployment is 1-877-600-2722. Press "1" to file an application for unemployment insurance benefits. Phoenix residents can reach the local office of unemployment at 602-364-2722, while people in the Tucson area can call the 520-791-2722 unemployment number. The Arizona department of unemployment also offers a TDD line at 1-877-877-6226.

The application must occur soon after the last day of work. The unemployment agency will provide a confirmation number when the application is approved.

Filing Weekly Claims

Participants who have already successfully completed their applications with the Arizona agency for unemployment may use different telephone numbers to file claims quickly. Calls to the unemployment number must be made weekly to confirm that the participant had not worked the previous week. Failure to make a claim can delay unemployment benefits. All claims must be made between Sunday at 12:01 am and Friday at 6:00 pm for payment for the previous week.

For claims, the toll-free phone number to unemployment is 1-877-766-8477. Participants can call the Phoenix area unemployment department at 602-417-3800 or the Tucson unemployment department at 520-884-8477. The TDD line for the Arizona department of unemployment is 1-877-877-6226.

Alternatively participants can call the phone number for unemployment listed in the section above, press "3" to file a weekly claim or get payment information, then press "1" to file a weekly claim, and then press "1" again to confirm filing of a weekly claim.

When using the phone number to unemployment, each participant must have a PIN. The Arizona unemployment agency system asks for this PIN during each phone call. After an identity is confirmed, the claims agent asks the following questions:

  • Were you able to work and available for work each regular workday?
  • Did you look for work?
  • Did you refuse any job offer or referral to work?
  • Did you work or earn any money?
  • What were your gross earnings before deductions?
  • Are you still working?
  • Was your separation due to lack of work or a reduction in force?
  • Have you returned to full-time work which will not require you to file any further weekly claims with the Arizona agency for unemployment?
